I began talking with other restaurant owners, and I was amazed at what they told me. Some of them were bringing large numbers of customers into their restaurants, but were not making any real profits. They were spending large amounts of money on newspaper ads, radio, and even television.

Often the ads were very expensive, but many restaurant owners were afraid to stop this kind of mass media advertising because they needed more business and knew no other way to bring in the customers. They were frustrated and confused. Some of their ads were working better than others, but they didn't really know which ones were adding bottom line profits.

There were some restaurant owners that were having great success with their restaurant marketing. They were spending very little on restaurant promotions, and they were consistently growing their business.
